Updated insights for We Can Be Active

The mission

Imagine if we could all be happier, healthier and stronger. That’s the inspiration behind We Can Be Active. Three years ago, the We Can Be Active Strategy was launched (2021) as a joint mission to inspire and support active lifestyles so we can all be active in a way that suits us.

The mission hasn’t changed but the world has moved on since 2021. This insight pack has been updated to allow you to keep advocating for physical activity in your work, your communities, and your families. It can be used in conjunction with the original insight pack to build a picture of what’s happened since the strategy first launched.

The insight

This insight pack contains inactivity data for years 2022-23 for both adults, and children and young people in local authorities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You’ll be able to see;

  • where inactivity has increased or reduced over time (Local Authority data)
  • inactivity levels for different demographic groups (Hampshire and Isle of Wight data)
  • where active minutes are being spent (Hampshire and Isle of Wight data)
  • some of the things stopping people from being active.

What's changed?

When we launched the insight pack in 2021, at the same time as the strategy, the world was a different place. We were contending with Covid-19 and a cost of living crisis. Whilst the impact of those are still relevant, the landscape of things effecting inactivity has developed. In this pack we introduce:

  • The inequality metric
  • Climate impact
  • Updated measurement and learning principles
