We are launching our new This Girl Can Hampshire video!
Energise Me launched This Girl Can Hampshire to encourage women across the county to get active. Throughout the past 18 months Energise Me has been featuring stories of local women embracing new ways to be active, both in and out of lockdown. Now things are opening up again, it’s a chance to show the many great ways to be active. On July 14th 2021 We kick off our video campaign. We hope to support the county’s women to embrace physical activity in their daily lives.
The video will feature local women from a variety of backgrounds who have all found ways to overcome barriers to being active.
Developed by Sport England, This Girl Can is an inclusive initiative that encourages women at every level to embrace physical activity and sport.
More men take part in weekly physical activity than women at almost every age group in the UK. Research shows that many women are put off being physically active due to a fear of judgement. This might be about the way they look when they exercise, that they’re not good enough to join in or they should be spending more time on their families, studies or other priorities
Led by local charity Energise Me, This Girl Can Hampshire is supported by a network of physical activity providers and partners. All the network want to inspire and support women to give physical activity a go. Activities featured in the Hampshire campaign will range from traditional sports such as football and cycling, to aerial hoop, wheelchair dancing and buggy bootcamps. These are just a taste of the 1200+ sessions featured on the new Get Active Hampshire activity finder.

Juliette Green, Marketing and Projects Officer at Energise Me said: “This Girl Can Hampshire is about helping local women feel confident to take part. National research shows that fears of being judged stop women from taking part in physical activity and sport. We’ve heard so many local stories that reinforce this. We want everyone in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to feel confident being active, in whatever way they choose and to be inspired by local role models to give physical activity a go.”
