Assistant / Guest Rugby Coach (University of Portsmouth)

The University of Portsmouth Men’s Rugby Club are looking for additional coaches to join their delivery team throughout the year, either as guest coaches for ad-hoc sessions, or more regular and frequent attendance.

The University of Portsmouth Men’s Rugby Club comprises four teams. The 1st team compete in the South Eastern Tier 2A BUCS league, and the 2nd and 3rd team compete in
the South Eastern Tier 3A league, both having weekly fixtures against other Universities. The 4th team play fixtures against local community teams and other Universities of the same level, at various points throughout the academic year.

Training sessions take place on:

  • Mondays, 6.30pm-9pm (6.30pm-7.45pm 3s & 4s; 7.45pm-9pm 1s & 2s)
  • Fridays, 5.30pm-8pm (5.30pm-6.45pm 1s & 2s; 6.45pm-8pm 3s & 4s)

Fixtures are scheduled for Wednesday afternoons (times & locations vary)

This is a voluntary position, however, expenses such as mileage to training or games will be reimbursed.

The Role

Main responsibilities of this role:

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan and deliver training sessions to various teams within the club, focusing on technical and tactical elements, specific to each
    team
  • Promote the club’s philosophy all members
  • Adhere to the University’s Code of Conduct and relevant policies
  • Be fit to work with adults at risk

Criteria:

  • Essential: Previous coaching experience
  • Essential: England Rugby Coaching Award (Level 2)
  • Desirable: RFU First Aid qualification (or equivalent) – assistant or guest coaches will always have an RFU first aid trained coach with them at training
